A Common Raven glides over the Red Deer River Valley with the famous topography of the Alberta Badlands visible in the background. The 250-plus hours I spent at this spot during a fall raptor migration survey resulted in a new-found appreciation for the Common Raven. On days when there were not any raptors flying by, the ravens often kept me entertained with their wide array of vocalizations and amazing aerial acrobatics. The nature of the viewpoint where I conducted this survey allowed for the possibility of photographing soaring bids from above, as seen in this photo.
