while working in Ontario I was able to watch this female Red-breasted Merganser slowly recover form an attack by a Baled Eagle. In August this bird had an ugly wound on her wing, preventing flight and spent most of the day sleeping on the shore of Lake Ontario, but by the end of October she had completely recovered. During this period I was able to spend many hours watching her behavior and she became very comfortable with my presence, allowing me to get this shot.
