Between two shadows Cooler temperatures provide a brief respite for animals changing the color of their winter coats. This hare, I almost stepped on it so much it merged with the ground. If it was only for his appearance in a beam of light I probably would never have noticed him. With such closeness, I could admire all the beauty of their big hazelnut-colored eyes. It was chewing up the little nutrients that were left from the plants. It seems to me that all animals feeding on greenery prefer to eat the remnants of summer rather than endlessly chewing the bitter thorns of fir trees that will be their only source of winter food. I stayed more than an hour lying on the ground without photographing it, simply watching it meticulously feel between the leaves and discover small surviving shoots. Maybe my presence reassured him by keeping predators away... one thing is certain, this little hare was serene.
