While pruning our backyard garden this past autumn we found this Chinese Praying Mantis hanging out in amongst some of our plants. I had never seen a praying mantis before so I went online to do a little research to familiarize myself with this insect. I ended up spending some time to observe the movements of the mantis and saw it prey on and devour an ant with amazing precision. The mantis is a nice subject to photograph - when you discover one, you have plenty of time to get your camera, set-up and photograph it. It will remain in one place for lengthy periods of time with very little movement.
