While birding at mud Creek Marsh near Pembroke Ontario this male least bittern crept out of the marsh and observed us for at least 10 minutes. The pink blush on his face indicates that he's in peak breeding form and he's probably looking for a mate. While we watched, he called constantly with his low guttural coo, No doubt looking for his errant female.
