Deep in the Northwest Passage on an ice-strengthened vessel, we came across a mother bear and her two nearly grown cubs, asleep on the ice. Noise from the bridge of the ship woke them, and they raced across the ice with incredible speed toward our ship, determined to check us out. Once they had a good look, they wandered off across the sea ice.
