This male coastal brown bear surprised the group when it silently swam across the river and climbed up the river bank in pursuit of a mother and her cub of the year, which had fled to the forest edge some minutes prior. This photo was taken in June, a time of year when mothers and their young have to exercise extreme caution in the presence of male bears looking to mate. Photo taken on the central coast of British Columbia. 400mm and cropped.
