For almost a month, I had been watching this Belted Kingfisher and hoping it would stop long enough on this particular branch for me to make the photograph I had in mind. I missed two earlier opportunities, but this morning everything finally came together. What I like most about the image is the amount of space around the bird. Rather than filling the frame, I wanted to preserve some of the calm and simplicity of the scene.
