Journey of a Lifetime

Every year, even months before it starts, I get very excited for the salmon run later in the year. The salmons whole life builds up to this one epic journey they make so they can give life to the next generation and I think it's incredible. This year I wanted to capture the action under water but with no money to buy an expensive housing I decided to build my own for in shallow waters. I tested it out over the summer and then in October I very carefully got into the river so not to disturb the salmon or the redds, and spent hours, day after day, trying to capture the split shot of salmon and rainforest that I had dreamed of taking. With lots of patience and a bit of luck I managed to capture a moment where the female took a break from digging a nest while the sun poked through the clouds for just about a minute. I have to say I'm quite proud of it.

A Peek of Caution

I was following and photographing grey whales from shore when I almost stepped on this little garter snake. The rocky shoreline here has many interesting formations, including small holes that wind through the rock, out one of which, this little snake had cautiously slithered.
