GHO Siblings

As pandemic restrictions limited travel around the Province, I started exploring forested areas much closer to home. These "Social Owlsolation" trips led to one of my most memorable owling seasons and one of my favourite encounters with a young GHO and it's family. This was my absolute dream shot. I never thought I would have the chance to see all three siblings together, let alone have them all look in my direction at the exact same time. (NIKKOR 200-500mm f5.6) 500mm 1/160 sec ISO 1250

Stealth GGO

A Lifer and a moment I will never forget. A late summer trip into prime Great Grey (Strix nebulosa) habitat proved to be well worth the effort. This image shows how well adapted they are to their environment. So much so that this was the only moment we had to observe, admire and move on, leaving it to it's morning hunting (NIKKOR 200-500mm f5.6) 500mm 1/30 sec ISO 200

GHO Peekaboo

As pandemic restrictions limited travel around the Province, I started exploring forested areas much closer to home. These "Social Owlsolation" trips led to one of my most memorable owling seasons and one of my favourite encounters with a young GHO and it's family. This beautiful young owl found a very lush and comfortable looking spot to hide from the neighbourhood crows. (NIKKOR 200-500mm f5.6) 500mm 1/30 sec ISO 400

Branching Great Horned Owl

As pandemic restrictions limited travel around the Province, I started exploring forested areas much closer to home. These "Social Owlsolation" trips led to one of my most memorable owling seasons and one of my favourite encounters with a young GHO and it's family. This was the first time I observed this beautiful young owl on such a low lying branch. (NIKKOR 200-500mm f5.6) 480mm 1/10 sec ISO 200
