Golden Dunes

Taken in early November, the golden grass shines brilliantly in the sunlight. Sand dunes play a crucial role in PEI's ecosystem. Dune areas are vegetated primarily with marram grass which is resistant to drying out and the influence of the nearby salt water environment. This natural grassland is home to birds such as the horned lark and the savannah sparrow. Coastal erosion has always been a threat to sand dunes, but has become a much more significant issue on PEI in the last two decades. As sea levels are predicted to continue to rise over the coming decades, the loss of more dunes systems into the ocean is almost guaranteed.

Off to the Beeches

Strathgartney Provincial Park, Prince Edward Island. At this provincial park there are a number of beautiful walking and hiking trails along the Bonshaw River. This trail, aptly named The Beech Trail, weaves through an orchard of gorgeous trees.

Eyes Wide Shut

As kit waits for its parent to return, the late evening sun provides warmth on its face.

Peek a Boo

A Ruffed Grouse forages in the fall foliage, keeping a keen eye on the photographer.

Stay Still

A curious chickadee comes to a rest for the briefest of moments. Clutching the needles of a spruce tree, this striking little fellow posed just long enough to capture the frame before retreating to higher ground.
