When I was hiking through the woods I luckily noticed some movement out of the corner of my eye. There, staring at me was a beautiful barred owl perched in amongst the trees. It blended in nicely with the wet tree bark and if it had not have moved, I probably would have walked right on by. Other than a few side to side glances, it stared directly at me for the duration of our interaction...or rather stared right through me with those black eyes.
Spring in Ontario means Trilliums. An abundance of the white plant can be found in treed areas across the province. This lone Trillium was nestled in amongst the new long grass and old reeds from the year before.
A Red-Tailed Hawk shows off it's colours as it surveys area for it's next meal. Usually hawks vacate the area as soon as they see you coming, but this one was content to stay while I snapped a few pictures.
Until now, I had never seen a wood duck fly into an opening in a tree. What amazed me was how the duck was able to approach at full speed and be able to squeeze itself into a small opening without missing a beat.
Timing was everything for this shot of a swan preening itself. The head position and most importantly the eye contact gives the impression of the swan acting shy towards the camera.
