An early-season snowfall in Jasper National Park made for unique photographic opportunities throughout the park. Remaining trees from Jasper's Excelsior fire in 2015 made for a beautifully contrasting scene with trees on the backslope covered in fresh snow, but trees in the foreground remaining inexplicably uncovered.
A snowy Bighorn Sheep ram in the thick of a high elevation blizzard in Jasper National Park, Alberta. Sheep are commonly encountered in the park, but seeing a monster ram blanketed by snow and nearly disappearing from view was awe-inspiring. The heavy snow actively falling and barely visible ram made for a unique photo opportunity. This was the best of the bunch.
A Great Grey Owl glides in front of my lens after successfully capturing a vole in deep snow. I was fortunate to watch this owl hunt in a remote bog over several days but had few opportunities to photograph predator and prey as the owl would typically consume its latest catch on the ground shortly after plunging on top of it.
A Canada Lynx emerges from the edge of the boreal forest in northern Alberta. These elusive felines are rarely encountered in the wild, but are often quite curious - like a large house cat.
