A pair of ospreys during courtship.
When the water level dropped (dam controlled) this old tree became the meeting place for Painted Turtles on Grants Creek. The skull reflection was apparent only when the sun was in a specific location and so too was my kayak.
Two species of male dragonflies are perched on the same cattail. The larger Slaty Skimmer on the left is not eating or fighting with the smaller Blue Dasher on the right. Male dragonflies compete for the females in their species. They may share the same space (i.e. a swamp) as other species of dragonflies, but usually they socially distance.
“Would you like to come back to my place for dessert?” The Long-Jawed Orb weaver already has victim #1 all wrapped up.
The male Sawyer Beetle (top) physically restraining the female Sawyer Beetle (bottom) while she chews a hole in the bark where her eggs will later be deposited.
