Best Seat in the House

This hoary marmot kept us entertained while hiking in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta. The marmot calls are a high pitched shrieking sound and resonate through the valleys. The views from up top of this precipice were astounding and I think the marmot had the best seat in the house.

My Better Side

There is a duck pond in a neighbourhood I visit. When the lighting is right, the duck's feather colours really stand out. This female wood duck was performing for me while she was having a great preening session. I loved the fun reflections in the pond.

Who Are You Looking At?

Upon walking around a small lake I spotted two cormorants on a log near the shore. They graciously allowed me to photograph them in true cormorant style. They sit to dry their wings often on logs after their fishing sessions.

Washing Day

I was walking along a path that is hidden in a shrub and wetland ecosystem behind an exposed ocean path on Island View Beach, Vancouver Island. It was a quiet morning when a blue heron caught my eye, in a tree right beside the path! I was given an opportunity to take many photos and was constantly amused by the many wonderful poses of this animated bird.

Best Seat in the House

There is a heron nesting site in a City Municipal Park in Victoria, BC. I was walking around looking up at herons flying in and out of the tall trees preparing their nesting sites. I managed to capture this blue heron sitting atop a branch. What caught me eye was the funny position this bird took on the branch. There wasn't enough room for the whole body so the feet had to dangle below and balance on a branch below!
