A laughing gull preening its feathers as the sun rises behind it in West Chezzetcook, Nova Scotia. Laughing gulls aren't usually present in this area, but these birds were brought in during a hurricane. They rested here for a couple of weeks before gathering the strength to continue their migration.
A swamp sparrow perched on a cattail in the early morning light at Miners Marsh, Kentville, Nova Scotia.
A Eurasian wigeon swimming at sunrise in Point Pleasant Park, Halifax, Nova Scotia. This Eurasian wigeon was the only one in a group of American wigeons, standing out from the crowd.
A Canadian goose at sunrise in Miners Marsh, Kentville, Nova Scotia. On this cold spring morning, steam was rising off the marsh creating a beautiful landscape around this tree. There were lots of geese nearby, so I stopped for a few minutes with my camera ready and surely enough, one swam over and perfectly aligned itself with the tree!
A black-legged kittiwake soaring over the water at sunset in Pond Inlet, Nunavut. I took this photo aboard the Canadian Coast Guard research vessel, the Amudsen, while surveying seabirds at sea in collaboration with Acadia University and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
