Green Inferno

A juvenile barred owl calls to its sibling after exploring the lush green forest floor.

Common Redpoll on Milkweed

A common redpoll perches momentarily on an old milkweed stem. The rest of the flock was near some scrub birch feeding on seed cones.

Common Redpoll on Milkweed in Light Flurries

A large flock of redpolls were foraging on alder seeds and birch seeds at the edge of a clearing. Several redpolls would land on nearby milkweed on their way to ground feeding. I took the shot as this one little redpoll posed nicely on an old milkweed.

I was very pleased in the spring and summer of 2020 to have several of the barred owl boxes I installed in the area occupied. This photo shows two juvenile barred owls perched together over a dense path. These two were virtually inseparable until late summer. I would often see them perched together and managed to get some photos in the dark forested area.

Grounded

A pair of juvenile barred owls explore a small clearing. I took this photo from my blind with a wide angle lens.
