This Northern Saw-whet roosting in this spruce tree was a special moment for me as many people will say finding a little guy like this is like finding a needle in a haystack. I looked at him, he looked at me... and he went back to sleep until dusk!
I had been out photographing grizzly bears all day and on the way home saw this beautiful lynx hunting along the forests edge in the tall grasses. I got out of my vehicle and was watching him and when he looked at me with those eyes! Oh my.
Just as the sun was setting, this fox appeared and sat listening to the grasses... his evening hunt beginning. The light was so beautiful as it lit up his stunning fur coat.
This winter I have had the opportunity to walk the forests around my home and I found this Northern Saw-whet Owl roosting in a spruce tree! I looked at it and they looked at me... then he/she went back to sleep, and I was elated!
I love the vibrant sapsuckers and was excited to find this family. I'm sure the parent was showing the young one how it's done. I love the birch tree and hope it survives this hungry family.
