Loon on nest
One year I was lucky enough to find the Loon nest hidden amongst some brush. In this image, you can see one of the adult Loons keeping the eggs warm in the nest.
Loon with fishing hook
This Loon got a fishing hook stuck in its mouth. I had even gathered a group of people and after speaking to a conservationist we were going to try to remove the hook. It is very difficult to capture a Loon but the good news is that a few days later the hook was gone and the adult Loon seemed to be ok. Sadly, one of the babies was gone. I will never know for sure but perhaps the baby was killed by the hook.

Heron Feeding Frenzy
I found a Great Blue Heron Rookery and managed to find a spot with a very good sight line, almost at eye level. You know the parent is coming to feed the young ones because there is a frenzy of activity and vocalizing before the adult arrives at the nest. That gave me just enough time to focus in and get ready as the feeding is super quick.
Loon Dance
I spend many hours in my kayak hanging out with Loons and was fortunate enough to catch this Loon as it was sending a message to visiting Loons to back away.
