Play Time

I was honored to watch six fox kits playing outside of their den, as the mother watched nearby. I used a telephoto lens from a long distance and then cropped the photo for a closer view of the kits at play. I used my Canon EOS 6D with a Canon EF 100-400mm lens and the following settings: 1/400 sec, f/14, ISO 800, Aperture Priority, Centre-weighted metering.

Lady on Wheat

I haven't seen many Ladybugs on wheat. This one was making its way up the stock, at the edge of a field. I used my Canon EOS 6D Mark II with a Canon EF 100 mm macro lens, with the following settings: 1/250 sec, f/8.0, ISO 800, Aperture Priority, Centre-weighted metering.

Collecting for Winter

A Hoary Marmot prepares for the long winter ahead by collecting bedding and food for his burrow. I used my Canon EOS 6D Mark II with a Canon EF 100-400mm lens with the the following settings: 1/250 sec, f/5.0, ISO 800, Aperture Priority, Centre-weighted metering.

Bears and Berries

The middle of July is when berries begin to ripen in the Rocky Mountains, and the bears eat as many as they can to prepare for hibernation. Normally the bears are well hidden in the bushes while they eat, so I was thrilled to see this black bear in a small clearing, at the side of the road. I watched him efficiently strip the berries from the branches for a few minutes, and then left him alone to feast. From the safety of my car, I used my Canon EOS 6D Mark II with a Canon EF 100-400mm lens with the the following settings: 1/1600 sec, f/6.3, ISO 800, Aperture Priority, Centre-weighted metering.

Battle of the Birdbath

Apparently Robins do not like to share their baths with each other. I watched for a half hour, from my deck, as Robins fought each other to have some time in the birdbath by themselves. I used my Canon EOS 6D Mark II with a Canon EF 100-400mm lens. In order to freeze the action, I used the following settings: 1/400 sec, f/6.3, ISO 2000, Aperture Priority, Centre-weighted metering.
