I was fortunate to spend a good amount of time with this Great Gray Owl which lent itself to some interesting photos. I like this profile shot as it highlights the beautiful feathering around the face....and sometimes we miss the beauty and intricacy as we are so often caught up in the eyes that we forget the rest of what makes this creature so majestic and beautiful.
I got caught photographing these beauties late in the fall, when I had thought most would be gone. It was beautiful and they were so busy....almost frantic as they got their last energy built up for the long flight of migration
I was able to observe this beautiful bird shortly after it finished a meal.....it hopped up onto the low branch just off of the ground, perhaps to digest. Regardless, it was a beautiful moment with just the perfect lighting. I was able to enjoy it's presence without interfering in it's routine of hunting voles and it seemed indifferent to my presence as I sat in the snow with it.
Spotted this Great Gray Owl busy preening in the forest
