Sitting Ducks
Nature and survival along the river shore at a Calgary urban park. A Great Blue Heron, after successfully catching two of the Common Merganser ducklings is still on the hunt for more. This sunny day wander with my camera turned out to be an eye opening day for me, as previously I'd thought Great Blue Herons only ate fish.

Great Blue Heron After The Hunt
I was thrilled to happen upon this Great Blue Heron along the river shore at a Calgary urban park, until I realized what he had! But it's the beauty and the reality of nature & survival. Previously, I'd thought these birds just ate fish. I was shocked and saddened, but I could not tear my eyes (or camera) away. I stayed put watching real life play out, as he quickly swallowed his lunch and then continued to hunt the adorable Common Merganser ducklings, realizing that baby birds and animals only look adorable to humans.

I was so please to happen upon this Great Blue Heron landing on the river shore at a Calgary urban park, until I realized he was landing with his lunch! And then my eyes were opened to both the beauty and reality of nature & survival. Until this moment, I truly thought these birds just ate fish.
