Neighbourhood Watch

I think I was at the kitchen sink and saw something out the window on the back neighbours fence. It was this Great Horned Owl having a snooze. One of the most brown(ish) coloured I've come across.

Silent Hunter

Lucky enough to run into half a dozen of these Great Grey Owls, two of which were actively hunting quite close to the road. It's absolutely gobsmacking how these creatures are able to pinpoint a vole under a foot of snow, silently glide over, hover above and eventually land directly on it without it noticing.

A Path So Tangled

We're so lucky to have such a large Provincial Park right in the city of Calgary. It covers almost 4 times the area of Central Park in New York City and is home to a vast amount of wildlife. It also has a wide variety of trees and plants - from the riverine, to the grasslands, to the parklands to the deep spruce forest. This colourful snap was captured in the denseness on the hill from Midnapore area across from Bow Valley Ranche.

Cuddling Kits

Driving back through the US Border into Canada and making the trek back to Calgary, we drove down a backroad to the main highway. Not far from the main highway, we saw a group of animals off up behind the fence in a farmer's field. It turned out to be several Red Fox Kits up on their den mound waiting for their Mother to bring them a tasty vole. The sibling adorably got right up in the other's face as it was gobbling down a vole.

Goose Steppin'

Walking through Carburn Park in Calgary, Alberta, we came up on a group of goslings and their guardian angel aka Mother Goose. Aside from a thousand adorable photographs of the goslings, I snapped a few of the mother and really got "intimate" with the detail in a gooses feet.
