When the lake was illumined with liquid gold at sunrise, a double-crested cormorant surfaced proudly with a catch after diving underwater. Perhaps this glorious moment of the day also provided the best chance for success to early hunters.
This image captured the moment of a Caspian Tern leaving the water with its prey. However, carrying such a big catch poses a great challenge. The fish might fall off its bill, or the tern would have to fend off “thieves” who want to capitalize on others’ efforts. Regardless of the odds, it is a risk worth taking with big payoffs if successful.
American Tree Sparrows rest on leafless plants on a cold winter day. Though random and simple, surprisingly, they form a visually appealing image together.
I have been tracking great egrets for quite some time but they like to play "hard-to-get" and keep a distance from humans. Until one day not long before their annual migration, hazy and foggy conditions offered me an opportunity for closer shots of a great egret in the process of landing.
When the autumn is well underway, the pods of a Japanese Rough Potato (metaplexis japonica) finally break open and expose downy spores that are ready to seed anytime on a windy sunset.
