After shooting a moonrise from a suburban hill lookout, I thought I was done for the evening as I walked back to my car. A Barred Owl flew in and landed on a lamppost at the end of the street, so I had to quickly and quietly get the shot. I knew I wouldn’t have time to put my tripod back up, so I gently placed it down, quickly changed my settings from “bright moon” to “barely-lit owl”, and framed a handheld shot with the window of the house behind it. The hardest part was doing it without keeping my camera raised for more than a few seconds so I didn’t alarm people in the residential neighbourhood.
