Coming in for a landing

I was out at dawn in the summer, wanting to photograph waterfowl on the lake with the colors of the sunrise reflecting off the water's surface. In a small bay a great blue heron came in to take up its place along the shoreline. I took a series of photos of the heron coming in and landing and then taking its perch, in a period of about 10 seconds there are a series of photos in which the normally dull grey of the heron was a much more brilliant blue. I am assuming caused by the long rays of light at sunrise refracting through the feathers, but it is only my best guess.
