The middle of July is when berries begin to ripen in the Rocky Mountains, and the bears eat as many as they can to prepare for hibernation. Normally the bears are well hidden in the bushes while they eat, so I was thrilled to see this black bear in a small clearing, at the side of the road. I watched him efficiently strip the berries from the branches for a few minutes, and then left him alone to feast. From the safety of my car, I used my Canon EOS 6D Mark II with a Canon EF 100-400mm lens with the the following settings: 1/1600 sec, f/6.3, ISO 800, Aperture Priority, Centre-weighted metering.
