Another Itch
This young tern was balancing on a floating mass but the balance was made a little more precarious by having to stand on one leg so the other leg could take care of an itch. The tern was balancing. I was balancing in my kayak trying to get the right perspective for the picture. We both stayed out of the water. :)
Contemplation
This tern looks as if it is contemplating whether it should really leave the firm footing of the floating plant. I was able to take some nice shots of the tern as it made a decision as to whether to take flight. Not all the floating masses were as comfortable as the one it was on. It was so amazing to see how easily the terns could spread their wings and fly . They are great flyers and it was an enjoyable afternoon just sitting back and watching them.
Dressed to Fit the Scene
This robin was perching motionless on the shrub as we came walking along a path. I took a few shots and we moved on thinking that a nest was nearby and we didn't want to stop the robin from feeding its young. A few steps later, we realized why the robin was perching so motionless on the shrub. There was a rattlesnake to the right of our path and the robin had spotted it before we did.
Eye Catching
This shot was taking while kayaking on a part of the lake that was only open to non motorized watercraft. There was a large flock of eared Grebes on the water that day. The grebes were so eye catching with their brilliant red eye. They were comfortable with the kayaks and we were able to just float and watch them while enjoying a beautiful sunny day. I snapped a lot of different shots and had many models to choose from. My favorite shot is this single grebe who was just enjoying the day.
A Cactus Calls This Home
We decided to take a short road trip to the east part of our province. We had our food and our tent and were keeping our distance from others in the summer of 2020. Our goal was to find flowers blooming. The ultimate goal was to find cactus flowers. The timing was right. I was able to take pictures of cactus flowers, both yellow and pink. There was a big storm settling in for rainfall which helps with determining the lighting of the different aspects of the photo.
