This is a smaller species of tachinid compared to others but it still has the tell-tale bristles and hunts other flies. I captured this one as it rested temporarily on a leaf of a Hosta.
Day Lilies seem to attract quite a variety of insects throughout the spring, summer & fall. With it's side profile, this one seemed like it was posing for me.
This fly stands out against the lush green of the garden.
Towards the end of the summer, the last remaining flowers seem to attract quite a few insects which is when I got this shot of the calliphorid fly.
Early in the spring as the warblers are moving north, we get quite a few that go through the garden and demonstrate their proficiency at locating over-wintered insects. This small wasp didn't really seem worth the effort but this Nashville Warbler was happy to consume it before moving on.
